Well, it's Halloween and all the little ghouls and goblins will be out running in the streets hyped up on sugar. I remember when I was a kid looking forward to going trick or treating for days or even weeks. We would hit every house in my tiny town, and come home with loads of candy. One of my favorites was the caramel apples and popcorn balls that some people took the time to make for all the kids. Of course all I ate was the caramel, and then threw the apple away. Nowadays, you can't really get the same experience that my generation had. We could trust that the candy we were getting was good, and not tampered with; now you really have to be careful and make sure your child isn't getting a razor blade shoved into a chocolate bar. We could go to anyone's house and they were happy to see you and gave you loads of candy; now not as many people leave their porch light on for you. We had to make our own costumes, and use our imagination; now you just go to Walmart and buy the latest movie or cartoon character. You used to be able to walk everywhere and not worry about being ran over, now everyone is in such a hurry that it is too dangerous.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy taking my daughter out for trick or treating, and I know that there are still safe neighborhoods left out there. Now we only go to our friends and family that we really know. It just isn't as safe as it used to be, but I guess that is the same with most anything now. Anyway, I will make this one short and just say Happy Halloween to all of you, and have a safe night.
